Q: Who can take Homeopathy?
A: Everyone can take homeopathy, from new born babies (birth trauma, feeding problems) to the aged. Children, adults, elderly all benefit from the results of homeopathy. Acute or chronic conditions can be addressed with homeopathy. It is very effective with animal I have used it with success on my cat and small dog where the alternative was long term drugs prescribed by a vet.
Q: What happens at a consult?
A: I allow 1.5 – 2 hours for an initial consult. This allows time to cover the total history of the person, medical conditions, life situation, family history etc. Then I match the presenting symptoms and administer a homeopathic remedy to match. After one month there is a follow up where all the changes are recorded and either the same remedy is repeated or a new picture may have emerged thus requiring a new remedy. Depending on whether it is an acute illness (requiring more repeated doses of the remedy on a daily basis) or a chronic illness, will determine the amount of follow-ups required. If it is a case of a new born or young child I also look a lot at what was going on for mum in the pregnancy, what was the birth like, how has the child developed, has there been an adverse reaction to vaccinations, etc.
Q: What are homeopathic remedies made from?
A: Remedies are made from plant, animal, and minerals sources. They can also be sourced from disease tissue and orthodox medicines.
Q: Do I need to stop taking my medicines from my GP?
A: No, it is not advised to stop taking your current medication. This needs to be done with the approval of your GP.
Q: Are there any side effects to Homeopathy?
A: Homeopathy works in a way that stimulates your body to heal itself. So, when you take it for a chronic illness it is possible and a positive sign, that your symptoms may intensify for a short time, this is a good indication that the remedy has gone to a level in the body’s vital force that has initiated a clearing of that dis-ease picture. Usually if a person experiences some intensified symptoms, they will dissipate after a period of 24-48 hours, whereby they person usually feels much more balanced and the dis-ease dissipates.
Q: Can Homeopathy be used in labour/pregnancy?
A: Yes, it is very useful in situations that arise during labour, even helping labour to progress if it has stopped. Many midwifes encourage women to use it during labour and post labour for tears and swelling from prolonged pushing.
Q: What qualifications does a Homeopath have to have to practice?
A: In New Zealand, Classical Homeopaths complete a four-year diploma that covers medical science, theory and philosophy, therapeutics, nutrition, biochemistry, Materia Medica, cultural awareness and clinical experience under the supervision of their tutors. I studied in Brisbane and attained a Degree status. Once graduated with a Diploma of Homeopathy, a homeopath can work towards registration with the NZ Council of Homeopaths. This is the governing body for all registered classical homeopaths in NZ and is indicated by the title R.C Hom.
